What HAY and Muuto say about materials and care. Powder-coated steel has a primer and an outdoor powder coat that protect against corrosion, hot-galvanised steel is dipped in zinc, and teak and lacquered pine are treated for outdoor use.
HAY notes that direct placement on a seafront can lead to corrosion. For a beach bar or a seafront terrace, ask us which pieces and finishes suit.
Both makers recommend a dry, ventilated place or a protective cover in winter. HAY and Muuto make outdoor covers for several pieces.
Bring cushions in overnight and in wet weather, and store them indoors for longer breaks.
Wipe powder-coated frames dry after rain and touch up scratches, so the steel underneath stays protected. HAY sells a repair lacquer for this.
